History of the Eagle Nest Outfitters

Eagles Nest Outfitters (ENO) was founded by brothers Peter and Paul Pinholster in 1999. Their first hammocks were made of parachute nylon for catching a nap after catching concerts in the Florida Keys. The brothers walked through campsites to sell the first hammocks they made. This advanced to selling at vendor booths at every recreational event that they could find.

Within two years, ENO went wholesale, and the hammocks are offered at more than 700 brick and mortar stores and online shops throughout the nation. ENO has grown to become a leader in parachute nylon hammocks industry offering one and two people hammocks, tarps, bags, cases, shelter systems, and hammock accessories

Things to consider before buying a hammock

Before you purchase any hammock, it’s important to take a step back and think about what purpose you intend to use if for and the features that are the most important to you.

If you’re a hiker or backpacker, you’ll be looking for a hammock that doesn’t take up much pack space, and it’s light to carry. Whereas a heavier hammock won’t necessarily phase a backyard hammock “camper”.

Ease of setup again is something that should be most closely paid attention to if the hammock will be regularly set up and packed down again, such as if you are backpacking. If you intend to set up your hammock for the summer season in your backyard, then a more labor-intensive set up isn’t so much of an issue.

Size, weight capacity, and comfort are all important factors, no matter where or how you intend to use your hammock. However, the requirements for each of these will vary depending on your body measurements and preferences.

Durable materials

The hammock is made from 70 denier nylon taffeta fabric is strong, and is triple stitched to give it durable construction you can depend on. These features combine to provide the hammock with a weight rating of up to 400 lbs.

However, it is recommended that you avoid leaving the hammock exposed to the destructive UV rays of the sun. Keep it in the shade to preserve the longevity and color brightness of the fabric.

Breathable

Strong and durable materials can be miserable to sleep in during hot and muggy weather, particularly if they are combined with a cheaper durable water repellent. However, the Doublenest doesn’t suffer from this and allows your body’s sweat vapor to wick away quickly.

Lightweight & Small Pack Size

Pairing the lightweight but strong parachute nylon with aluminum carabiners helps keep the weight of the Doublenest down. The hammock weighs just 19 ounces and packs down to the size of a grapefruit (4″ x 5.5″).

If you want to shed some weight, and don’t need the large size of a double hammock then consider checking out the ENO Singlenest Hammock instead.

Ample length and width for 2

When unfolded, the ENO doublenest hammock expands to a length of 9 feet 4 inches x 6 feet 2 inches. This gives you plenty of head and legroom lengthwise. It also allows you to spread out to find the best position for your sleeping pad and sleeping bag. It is designed to hold 1 to 2 persons and does so comfortably.

Easy setup

It comes with aluminum wiregate carabiners and stainless steel snap links that allow you to secure the hammock in between trees, walls, boat masts, or other secure areas. You can have an instant napping area in just minutes.

The only thing you need to purchase is a set of straps to attach the carabiners. The setup process couldn’t be more straightforward. Simply find two trees about 10-12 feet apart. Attach the straps about 5 feet above the ground. Unpack the hammock from its self-contained stuff sack. Attach the straps to the carabiner on each end. Adjust it for your comfort, and you’re ready to take a nap with a quick and easy setup. No special tools are needed.

Eco-friendly

The materials sourced for the doublenest hammock are sourced from sustainable supplies. Every hammock produced by the company reduces any potential waste because they use every bit of fabric that is produced, even the remnants.

Since ENO uses every scrap of material, it’s common to receive a hammock that has variations in the colors, the prints, and the stitching. While some may see this as an inconvenience, we think many would prefer dealing with a manufacturer that cares about the preservation of the planet.

Quick-drying

The parachute material is one of the fastest drying fabrics available. A slight breeze will drive the moisture out quickly.

Drawbacks

The ENO Doublenest does suffer a tad when exposed to bright sunlight for long periods of time, causing the fabric colors to fade. However, this is a minor inconvenience, and one easily avoided if you take the time to pack the hammock away when now in use.

The hammock comes on its own, and accessories such as suspension straps, rain fly and bug net have to be purchased separately.

Conclusion
